Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos

Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos

8 in x 2.25 in prayer candle

In 1543, Father Miguel de Bologna, a Spanish Catholic priest, brought a statue of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception to a town that would become known as San Juan de Los Lagos (1623). Local legends say that a traveling acrobat and his family came to town. The mother and two daughters were part of the show. They would perform acrobatic feats over various knives and swords. The youngest daughter fell during a performance and was killed. They prepared the body and brought it to the chapel of Our Lady of San Juan for burial. They were met at the chapel door by Ana Luci, wife of Pedro Antes he caretaker of the statue. She took the statue from the sacristy and laid it next to the child's body. In a few minutes, everyone saw movement beneath the burial shroud. They unwrapped the body to find the child alive. This was the first of many miracle attributed to the statue.

Our Lady of San Juan is invoked for protection.
